So wrote Gretta Zimmer Friedman, recalling the day in 1945 when a drunken sailor named George Mendosa sexually assaulted her in Times Square.  Such incidents happen all the time; though of course not all enter our cultural consciousness as iconic (and widely misinterpreted) photographs.
